Enugu Air Set to Begin Domestic Flights Today, July 7

Enugu State is making history today, July 7, as it officially launches its own state owned airline, Enugu Air, with the start of domestic flight operations.

The launch will be led by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, who is expected to inaugurate the new airline during a special ceremony.

In a public announcement released on Sunday, Obi Ozor, Enugu State’s Commissioner for Transport, said the airline is part of Governor Peter Mbah’s vision to modernize the state’s transport system and make Enugu a major hub for air travel in Nigeria and West Africa.

According to the statement, Enugu Air will begin operations with three Embraer E170 and E190 aircraft, which are known for their efficiency, comfort, and suitability for regional flights.

The airline will first connect the “golden triangle” of Enugu, Abuja, and Lagos, with plans to expand services soon to other major Nigerian cities, including:

  • Port Harcourt ,Owerri, Benin and kano

  • The state government said the new airline is part of a larger transport development plan, which includes road, rail, and air travel, aimed at boosting the state’s economy, tourism, and connectivity.

“Enugu Air is built on innovation and sustainability. It marks a bold and historic step toward transforming how people travel in and out of Enugu,” the government said in the announcement.

With the launch of Enugu Air, Enugu became one of the few Nigerian states to own and operate a commercial airline. The move is expected to improve regional access, reduce travel time, and increase economic opportunities within the South-East and beyond.

The government has invited all Nigerians to be part of this new chapter, describing it as a milestone in the journey to modernize Enugu and position it as a leading aviation hub in the country.
