Enugu NDC Insists Johnpaul Anih Is Not State Chairman

By Isaac Mission

The Enugu State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has reaffirmed that Dr. Johnpaul Anih is not the recognised chairman of the party in the state, maintaining that the party's national leadership has consistently rejected his claim to the position.

In a statement issued by the State Secretary, Hon. Nebo Chukwujekwu Emmanuel, the party said it was necessary to address what it described as repeated attempts to misrepresent the legal and political status of the party's leadership in Enugu State.

According to the statement, a Certified True Copy of the judgment delivered by the Enugu State High Court in Suit No. E/484/2026 showed that the court declined jurisdiction after ruling that the dispute concerned the internal affairs of a political party.

The party argued that the court's decision did not confer legitimacy on any individual claiming the chairmanship, stressing that matters relating to party leadership remain within the authority of the party's national leadership.

The statement further maintained that the National Working Committee (NWC) has repeatedly distanced itself from Anih through public statements and has warned members of the public against recognising or dealing with him as a representative of the NDC.

According to the Enugu chapter, Engr. Ibuchukwu Obeta remains the officially recognised chairman of the party in the state, while Hon. Nebo Chukwujekwu Emmanuel continues to serve as the state secretary.

The party urged its members, supporters and the general public to disregard claims suggesting that the recent court judgment validated Anih's leadership, describing such reports as misleading.

It also reaffirmed its commitment to internal democracy, constitutional order, the rule of law and respect for the decisions of the party's duly constituted organs.

Gombe ADC Publicity Secretary Resigns

Meanwhile, the Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Gombe State, Abdulrahman Buba Zaune, has resigned his membership of the party with immediate effect.

In a resignation letter dated August 5, 2026, and addressed to the ADC chairman in Zaune Ward, Dukku Local Government Area, Zaune expressed appreciation to the party for the opportunity to serve at the local, state and national levels.

Although he did not reveal his next political move, his resignation has sparked speculation that he may be preparing to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

His exit comes shortly after APC governorship candidate Jamilu Gwamna visited Dukku Local Government Area and follows the earlier resignation of ADC State Secretary Ahmed Gana, who recently left the party and declared support for Gwamna's 2027 governorship bid.
