Enugu Suspends Transport Enforcement for NBA Conference

The Enugu State Government has stopped all transport enforcement activities during the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Annual Conference, held in Enugu from August 25 to 29, 2025.

The Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Obi Ozor, announced this in a statement on Thursday, August 22. He said the suspension will last until September 1, 2025, to allow free movement for the more than 20,000 visitors expected in the city for the event.

Dr. Ozor explained that during this period, transport officers will focus only on traffic control to prevent congestion, especially around the International Conference Centre and nearby roads.

He warned officers not to harass or intimidate motorists but to guide traffic professionally. Anyone who disobeys these instructions may lose their job or contract.

The suspension does not cover emergencies. Officers are still allowed to respond to accidents, dangerous road situations, and traffic incidents.

The ministry also appealed to transport partners and local councils to provide temporary parking spaces to help ease movement during the conference.

Meanwhile, certain roads have been declared restricted routes for commercial buses, tricycles (keke), and private cars to reduce traffic. Motorists are advised to follow the new traffic plan until the event ends.

The government said the measures are only temporary and are aimed at ensuring the success of the NBA conference while making life easier for road users.
