Governor Mbah Launches Five Modern Transport Terminals, 100 CNG Buses, and New Transport System in Enugu

On Thursday, August 14, 2025, Governor Peter Mbah officially commissioned five ultramodern transport terminals in different parts of Enugu State, marking a major step toward building a modern and efficient transport network.

Alongside the terminals, the governor launched 100 out of the 200 CNG powered mass transit buses acquired by his administration, over 80 newly constructed bus shelters, and the Enugu State Modern Transport System.

The newly inaugurated terminals include:

  • Holy Ghost Terminal 1 (Enugu Central Station 1) for interstate transport

  • Holy Ghost Terminal 2 (Enugu Central Station 2) for intercity transport

  • Nsukka Central Station

  • Abakpa Central Station

  • Gariki Central Station

Governor Mbah explained that these projects are part of the state’s Integrated Five Terminal Transport Infrastructure Project Phase 1, which supports his vision to grow Enugu’s economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion. He recalled that before the project began in late 2023, the Holy Ghost area was known for chaotic traffic and poor orderliness, and emphasized that an efficient public transport system is vital to making Enugu the most livable city in Nigeria.

The governor described the terminals and CNG bus service as key pillars of a multimodal transport system that will integrate road, rail, air, and waterways. He noted that the initiative will create over 20,000 jobs, boost small and medium sized enterprises, and make Enugu more competitive in Africa.

A new e-ticketing system was also introduced to ensure transparency, prevent revenue leakages, and make travel more convenient. Passengers can use one ticket across different buses, and both vehicles and passengers will be covered by comprehensive insurance.

Governor Mbah expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his support to Enugu and the South East, citing the concession of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport as a key step toward making the state an aviation and economic hub.

Federal representatives, including the Presidential Initiative on CNG, praised the project as a bold step toward cleaner, safer, and more affordable transport. The contractors, Planet Project Construction Company, described the simultaneous construction of five terminals as unprecedented in Nigeria’s history, highlighting the governor’s strong political will.

Local government chairmen, traditional rulers, and community leaders across the state welcomed the development, describing it as a major catalyst for economic growth and improved quality of life in Enugu.
