Speaking at the inauguration, Governor Mbah described the facilities as a central pillar of his administration’s multimodal transport agenda, which integrates road, rail, air, and waterways into one safe and efficient ecosystem. He emphasized that the project is already creating jobs, stimulating small businesses, and positioning Enugu to compete with leading cities across Africa.
According to the governor, the new system will generate over 20,000 direct and indirect jobs across bus rapid transit (BRT), 2,000 hybrid city taxis, airport operations, ride hailing services, and support sectors directly benefiting more than seven million residents of the state.
The apex Igbo socio cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, hailed the governor’s bold steps, saying his performance justifies calls for the devolution of powers to states. In a statement signed by its Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Mazi Ikechukwu Bismarck Oji, the group commended the launch of the Enugu State Modern Transport System, rollout of 100 out of 200 planned CNG buses, and construction of 80 modern bus shelters across the state.
Ohanaeze further highlighted Mbah’s record of reviving moribund industries such as United Palm Products Limited, Hotel Presidential, and NIGERGAS, alongside ongoing projects including 260 Smart Green Schools, 260 ultramodern healthcare centres, the completion of the Enugu International Conference Centre, and the NODSRA Tractor Assembly and Service Centre.
The group also praised the governor’s reforms in security, citing the establishment of a state of the art Command and Control Centre, the deployment of 150 AI enabled security vehicles, and the restoration of peace that has brought an end to the Monday sit-at-home protests in the state.
In the power sector, Enugu has become the first state in Nigeria to establish its own Electricity Regulatory Commission, which has already implemented tariff reductions for residents.
The newly inaugurated terminals include :Holy Ghost Terminal 1 (Interstate Transport),Holy Ghost Terminal 2 (Inter city Transport),Nsukka Central Station, Abakpa Nike Central Station, Garriki Central Station
According to Ohanaeze, these facilities, combined with the CNG bus rollout and transport management system, mark a historic leap in the South East’s transport infrastructure, placing Enugu among modern cities with globally competitive systems.
The group urged residents to take ownership of the new facilities and use them responsibly, stressing that the projects are designed to improve daily life while securing long term prosperity for Ndi Enugu.
