In the Southeastern Region, Petrol is being Sold for N650 per litre

The cost of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as fuel, has surged to approximately N630 to N650 per liter in major cities of the southeast. Independent marketers made adjustments to their pumps on Tuesday morning to reflect the new prices, following a price hike by the NNPC (Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation).

At Matrix filling station in Enugu, a liter of fuel was sold at N640, while other filling stations charged N650. In Awka, the prices of petrol ranged from N630 to N650 in most of the filling stations visited. Similar situations were reported in Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi State, and Owerri, the capital of Imo State.

The sudden increase in PMS prices surprised many motorists, with some expressing shock over the situation. Anthony Umeh, for instance, stated that he was still recovering from the effects of subsidy removal before this recent increase. He criticized the fact that in a country known for being one of the largest crude oil producers in Africa, he could only obtain eight liters of PMS for N5,000, whereas normally he would get 25 liters for the same amount.

Chinedu Anyaso, the Chairman of IPMAN (Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria), Enugu Depot Community, which is in charge of Anambra, Ebonyi, and Enugu, acknowledged the price increase of petroleum products. He explained that the adjustment was a result of the price list issued by the NNPC.
