Jehovah’s Witnesses Update Blood Transfusion Policy in 2026

Jehovah’s Witnesses, a globally recognized religious organization, has announced an important update to its long-standing position on blood transfusions.

For decades, members of Jehovah’s Witnesses have refused blood transfusions and blood donations during medical treatment. This belief is based on their interpretation of the Bible, which instructs followers to abstain from blood. They hold that blood represents life and must be respected in obedience to God.

As a result, many members have strictly followed this doctrine, even in life-threatening medical situations.

However, in a new update released in March 2026, the Governing Body of Jehovah’s Witnesses provided further clarification on the use of blood in medical care.

According to the update, members are now allowed to undergo certain medical and surgical procedures that involve the use of their own blood. This means that in situations such as surgery, patients may permit the use of their own stored or circulated blood as part of treatment.

Despite this development, the organization maintains its long-standing position that members are not permitted to receive blood from other individuals.

Jehovah’s Witnesses remain one of the most distinctive Christian-based religious movements in the world, widely known for their door-to-door evangelism and strong commitment to their beliefs.
