The company managing Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Aero Alliance Limited, has signed an agreement with major aviation unions to protect workers’ jobs and working conditions.
The agreement, known as a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), was signed with the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSAN), the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), and the Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals (ANAP).
The MoU guarantees job security and ensures that the status and conditions of service of all staff affected by the airport concession will be protected.
The meeting was called by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, to resolve concerns surrounding the airport concession.
Under the agreement, no worker will lose their job unfairly, and all existing work conditions will be respected as agreed by both sides.
The meeting was held in an open and cooperative manner, allowing honest discussions about workers’ welfare, job security, and the long-term future of the airport under the concession arrangement.
The minister praised the leaders of ATSSAN, NUATE, and ANAP for their maturity, love for the country, and willingness to resolve issues through dialogue. He assured that the federal government is committed to upgrading aviation infrastructure without harming the welfare or dignity of Nigerian workers.
According to the minister, resolving the issues around the Enugu airport concession is a major step in improving Nigeria’s aviation sector. It shows the government’s effort to involve private companies while still protecting public workers and national assets.
In a statement signed by the minister’s media adviser, Tunde Moshood, the ministry said it will continue to work closely with all stakeholders to build a modern, efficient, and globally competitive aviation industry in Nigeria.
