Mbah Reaffirms Enugu Air's Commitment to Safety After Runway Incident

By Isaac Mission

Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, has assured the public that safety remains the highest priority for Enugu Air following a runway incident involving one of the airline's aircraft at Benin Airport.

In a statement personally signed by the governor, he expressed sympathy to the 63 passengers and five crew members aboard the Embraer E170 aircraft, describing the experience as traumatic while expressing gratitude that no lives were lost and no injuries were reported.

The aircraft, operating Flight 4264 from Lagos to Benin on Thursday, experienced a runway excursion shortly after landing.

Governor Mbah commended the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) for its prompt response and the commencement of an investigation into the incident. He assured that Enugu Air would fully cooperate with investigators and all relevant aviation regulatory agencies to determine the cause of the occurrence.

He emphasised that the airline operates under strict safety procedures, noting that its operational philosophy places passenger safety ahead of commercial considerations and flight schedules.

According to the governor, Enugu Air maintains quality assurance and quality control systems that exceed standard industry requirements, a commitment he said has continued to earn the confidence of passengers and aviation stakeholders.

He reaffirmed that the airline would continue to deliver safe, professional and customer-focused services while remaining committed to maintaining the highest operational standards.

Governor Mbah also expressed appreciation to Nigerians for the overwhelming support shown to the airline following the incident. He noted that many travellers had shared positive experiences of flying with Enugu Air since its launch, describing the public's solidarity as encouraging during the period.

He reiterated the state government's commitment to ensuring the airline continues to operate with safety, professionalism and excellent customer service at the core of its operations.
