Notorious Gunmen Captured as Security Agencies Recover Arms in Enugu

Security agencies in Enugu State have recorded a major breakthrough in the fight against crime with the arrest of six notorious suspects who had been on the state's security watch list. The operation also led to the recovery of a significant quantity of weapons, ammunition, and military-style equipment.

The recovered items include 17 AK-47 rifles, a General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG), a rocket-propelled rifle, a tear-gas gun, 12 AK-47 magazines, two hand grenades, three tear-gas canisters, and 1,071 rounds of ammunition. Security operatives also seized various uniforms and four lanyards during the operation.

Speaking during an inspection of the recovered arms at the Department of State Services (DSS) headquarters in Enugu, Governor Peter Mbah commended the efforts of the security agencies, describing the operation as a victory for vigilance, professionalism, and commitment to duty.

According to the governor, some of the arrested suspects were linked to previous violent attacks in the state, including incidents that resulted in the deaths of security personnel. He noted that although some perpetrators had already been apprehended, the newly arrested suspects were among those who had remained at large.

Mbah reiterated his administration's resolve to rid the state of criminal activities, stressing that anyone who commits crimes in Enugu would eventually be identified, tracked, and brought before the law.

The governor also expressed satisfaction with the impact of the state's investment in modern security technology and infrastructure, noting that the combination of advanced technology and dedicated personnel has strengthened efforts to combat crime.

He assured residents that security agencies remain committed to protecting lives and property while warning criminal elements still operating within the state to leave or face the consequences of their actions.

Mbah further urged landlords and property owners to properly screen prospective tenants, emphasizing that ignorance would not excuse those who provide shelter to criminals. He maintained that properties connected to violent crimes could face government sanctions, including demolition.

The governor also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for ongoing efforts to improve national security through the rehabilitation of security training institutions and support for state policing initiatives. He expressed confidence that these measures would enhance security operations across the country and enable states to play a more active role in safeguarding their communities.
