Arsenal could have another attacking option emerging from their youth pipeline, with teenage prospect Holger Quintero tipped to eventually challenge Eberechi Eze for a place in Mikel Arteta's side.
Eze arrived from Crystal Palace for a reported £67 million and was expected to add creativity and goals to Arsenal's attack. However, his first season in north London produced mixed results, with the England international managing seven Premier League goals.
Five of those strikes came in two matches against Tottenham Hotspur, highlighting the inconsistency that has surrounded his performances.
Arsenal's attacking concerns were further exposed by their inability to land a top-level forward during the latest transfer window. Attempts to bring in players such as Julian Alvarez and Vinicius Junior did not materialise, leaving Arteta to work with the options already available.
With Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli having departed, Eze could be asked to provide cover on the left side when new signing Christos Tzolis is unavailable. Yet his limited involvement during the opening stages of the 2026/27 campaign suggests his position in the starting XI is far from guaranteed.
Quintero's rise could change the picture
Arsenal already appear to be planning for the future.
The club signed Ecuadorian twins Edwin and Holger Quintero from Independiente del Valle in December 2025. While Edwin is primarily a right winger, Holger is regarded as the more centrally minded and technically gifted of the pair.
The youngster has been compared with Thiago Alcantara because of his close control and ability to operate comfortably in tight areas.
Quintero is still a long way from becoming a regular first-team player. He will not turn 18 for another 11 months and remains with Independiente del Valle, where he has made just one senior appearance so far.
Nevertheless, his performances at the 2026 U17 CONMEBOL Championship have generated considerable excitement. He scored twice and registered an assist in five matches, while averaging 2.4 successful dribbles and an impressive 9.8 duels won per game.
Football scout Jacek Kulig has already described Quintero as a "10/10 talent", further underlining the expectations surrounding the teenager.
Arsenal have reason to be excited
Quintero's development could take several years, but Arsenal have already seen the value of Independiente del Valle's academy.
Piero Hincapie developed at the Ecuadorian club before establishing himself at the highest level, while Chelsea stars Moises Caicedo and Kendry Paez also emerged from the same renowned youth system.
For that reason, Arsenal will be hoping Quintero can follow a similar trajectory.
He is unlikely to immediately replace Eze, but continued progress could eventually create genuine competition for the England international. If Quintero fulfils his considerable potential, Arsenal may have another creative weapon capable of making a significant impact at the Emirates.
For Eze, meanwhile, the emergence of another highly rated attacking prospect means there will be even greater pressure to rediscover the form that made him such an influential player at Crystal Palace.
