The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) South-East Zonal Working Committee has urged Nigeria’s top security authorities to investigate the activities of security agencies in the region, with particular attention on the Ebonyi State Commissioner of Police.
The call was made in a statement signed by the party’s National Vice Chairman for the South-East, Mike Ahumibe.
The PDP alleged that the Ebonyi police commissioner had failed to respond proactively to several petitions submitted by opposition political parties in the state.
According to the party, the alleged lack of action raises concerns about the conduct and professionalism of the police command ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The South-East PDP committee therefore appealed to the National Security Adviser, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Inspector-General of Police and other relevant security agencies to scrutinise the activities of security personnel across the region.
The party said such an assessment was necessary to ensure that opposition parties could participate freely in the electoral process without intimidation, manipulation or undue interference.
The PDP also expressed optimism about its prospects in the 2027 elections, describing its chances as a “low hanging fruit” that could be achieved through strategic political efforts.
The opposition party further praised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for what it described as his dynamic leadership and contributions to the PDP.
The party maintained that security agencies must operate professionally and provide a level playing field for all political parties as preparations for the 2027 elections intensify.
