Arsenal's remarkable Premier League triumph has been followed by growing uncertainty behind the scenes, with some club employees reportedly concerned that a major restructuring could lead to job losses.
The Gunners ended a 22-year wait for the English top-flight title last season and also reached the Champions League final. Despite the success on the pitch, a review of the club's operations has reportedly created anxiety among sections of the workforce.
According to the report, US-based consultancy Boston Consulting Group (BCG) has been conducting the review for around three months. BCG managing director Jean-Paul Petranca is understood to be overseeing the process and reporting to Arsenal chief executive Richard Garlick.
Club says review is focused on growth
Arsenal have not publicly commented on the situation.
However, people close to the club reportedly insist that the consultancy's involvement is aimed at helping Arsenal expand commercially, maximise the benefits of their recent success and maintain strong performance over the long term.
The review is also believed to include an assessment of operational efficiency, raising concerns among some employees that redundancies could eventually follow.
There is particular unease within the commercial department, where staff members are reportedly worried about potential changes to their roles.
Commercial department under scrutiny
The concerns come after Juliet Slot, who previously led Arsenal's commercial operation, left the club during the summer following almost five years in the position.
During Slot's tenure, Arsenal recorded significant growth in revenue, making the prospect of further changes within the commercial structure a sensitive issue.
Some employees reportedly question the logic of reducing the workforce in an area responsible for generating revenue through sponsorships and commercial partnerships.
Arsenal's ability to generate income is also important in helping the club operate within Premier League and UEFA financial regulations.
Staff frustrated by perceived imbalance
One source inside the club reportedly expressed frustration that the football operation appears to have been largely protected while other departments face the possibility of restructuring.
The concern is not simply about potential redundancies but also about who would make those decisions.
Some employees are reportedly unhappy with the possibility of an external consultancy determining changes to the workforce after Arsenal's most successful season in more than two decades.
The situation has created an unusual contrast at the club: while Arsenal's players and coaching staff are enjoying the rewards of an historic campaign, some employees working away from the pitch are facing uncertainty over their futures.
Arsenal facing key decisions
The club's leadership must now balance its desire for greater efficiency with the need to maintain the infrastructure supporting its continued growth.
Arsenal's success has increased expectations both domestically and in Europe, while the club's commercial operation remains central to funding ambitions on the pitch.
For employees, the immediate question is whether the ongoing BCG review will result in significant restructuring or simply lead to changes in how departments operate.
With no official announcement on potential redundancies, uncertainty remains, but the reported concerns highlight the challenges Arsenal face in managing rapid growth after finally returning to the top of English football.
