An Anambra-based cleric, Bishop Patrick Osaji, has made a prediction that Peter Obi could face a major setback in his bid to contest the 2027 presidential election under the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
In a video circulating on social media, Osaji claimed that the party could eventually withdraw its support for Obi and declare him ineligible to contest the presidential election on its platform.
The bishop further predicted that the development could trigger a prolonged legal battle, alleging that Obi would spend the period leading up to the 2027 election challenging the party's decision in court.
Osaji, however, did not present evidence to substantiate the prediction or explain what could lead to such a development.
Neither Obi nor the NDC had publicly responded to the cleric's claims at the time of the report.
Obi's political journey
Obi's political movement has attracted significant attention ahead of the 2027 general election, particularly following his move to the NDC.
The former Anambra State governor left the African Democratic Congress on May 2, 2026, and was subsequently ratified as the NDC's presidential candidate on May 29, 2026.
His emergence as the party's candidate followed his widely followed 2023 presidential campaign, when he contested under the Labour Party and gained substantial support, especially among younger Nigerians.
However, his movement across political platforms has continued to attract criticism from some political observers who question his long-term party loyalty.
The latest prediction by Bishop Osaji adds another layer to the growing political speculation surrounding Obi and the opposition ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
For now, there is no indication from the NDC or Obi's camp that the party plans to withdraw his candidacy.
