EFCC Arrests 24-Year-Old Man Over Alleged Naira Abuse During Birthday Celebration in Enugu
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a 24-year-old palm kernel dealer, Iziga Jude Ikechukwu, for allegedly abusing the Nigerian currency during his birthday celebration in Enugu State.
In a statement posted on its official page, the EFCC said the suspect, also known as “Easy-Money,” was arrested by operatives of the EFCC Enugu Zonal Directorate after a video of the incident went viral on social media.
According to the commission, the video showed Ikechukwu mishandling naira notes while celebrating his birthday in a hotel room.
“The suspect was seen recording himself while abusing naira notes in his hotel room during his birthday celebration,” the statement said.
The commission explained that the act violates Section 21 of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act 2007, which prohibits the abuse and mishandling of the Nigerian currency.
The EFCC said that after receiving intelligence about the video, its operatives carried out a preliminary investigation that led to the identification of the suspect and his residence.
He was later arrested on February 28, 2026, at his home around Timber Market in Enugu-Ezike, Enugu State.
According to the commission, the sum of N81,700, believed to be part of the money allegedly abused in the video, was recovered from the suspect.
The EFCC added that Ikechukwu will be charged to court after investigations are completed.
