Enugu State Launches Free Digital Literacy Training for All Teachers Ahead of Smart Green Schools Rollout
The Enugu State Government has launched a free online digital literacy training program for all teachers in the state, as part of preparations for the rollout of the Smart Green Schools in September. The initiative, introduced through the Ministry of Education in partnership with the Center for Experiential Learning and Innovation (CELI), is a key part of the state’s “Smart Teacher, Smart School” readiness plan, aimed at equipping educators with modern digital skills for 21st century teaching.
The training program, titled “Intermediate Digital Literacy for Adults: Teacher Edition,” is fully online, self paced, and free. It is open to all teachers in Enugu State, including those in both public and private schools. To participate, teachers are required to register using their Gmail accounts and enter their full legal names to ensure proper accreditation and certification upon completion of the course.
This training is not just a regular professional development opportunity, but a strategic investment in the state’s vision to lead education innovation in Nigeria. By developing the digital capacity of its educators, the state is preparing them to deliver technology enhanced and student centered instruction, particularly in the soon to be commissioned Smart Green Schools.
According to the Commissioner for Education, Professor Ndubueze L. Mbah, the goal of this program is to ensure that every teacher in Enugu State is digitally prepared to shape the future of learning. He emphasized that this moment marks a significant step for the education sector in the state, noting that both teachers and students deserve access to world class digital teaching tools and methods.
The Center for Experiential Learning and Innovation, which is leading the implementation of the program, has designed the course to provide hands-on, real world learning solutions. CELI’s mission is to create a network of digitally fluent educators who can confidently integrate technology into their teaching methods to better engage young learners.
The digital literacy course is expected to help teachers improve classroom engagement using technological tools, support their transition into the Smart School system, and provide them with official certification upon completion. Its flexible and self paced structure also allows teachers to participate without disrupting their busy schedules.
Teachers across the state are encouraged to enroll as soon as possible, as digital proficiency will be an essential requirement for teaching in the Smart Green Schools once they are launched in September.
