South-East No Longer Marginalised Under Tinubu, Says Senator Ngwu

The Senator representing Enugu West Senatorial District, Osita Ngwu, has stated that the South-East region no longer feels excluded from national development under the administration of President Bola Tinubu, citing major federal appointments and ongoing infrastructure projects across the zone.

Ngwu made the remarks during a tour of federal government projects in Enugu State organised by the Renewed Hope Ambassadors in partnership with the Presidential Media Team. The inspection covered several projects, including the completed Eke Obinagu Flyover on the Enugu-Abakaliki Expressway, the rehabilitation of the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway, and the ongoing Abakpa Interchange construction.

According to the lawmaker, the Eke Obinagu Flyover has significantly eased traffic challenges along the Enugu-Abakaliki corridor, which serves as a key route connecting Enugu and Ebonyi states.

He also praised the reconstruction of the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway, noting that travel time on the route has been drastically reduced from several hours to just over two hours.

Ngwu maintained that claims of marginalisation of the South-East no longer align with current realities, pointing to the federal government's investments in road infrastructure and the appointment of an indigene of the region as Minister of Works.

He said the region has benefited from several completed and ongoing projects, including the Enugu-Onitsha Road, the Enugu-Port Harcourt Road, and the road linking Enugu to Makurdi.

The senator urged residents of the region and Nigerians generally to continue supporting the government, expressing confidence that more development projects would be delivered over time.

At the Abakpa Interchange project site, project engineer Kanile Raphael Nkoko explained that the flyover and accompanying service roads are designed to decongest traffic at one of Enugu's busiest intersections and improve transportation efficiency when completed.

Similarly, the Federal Controller of Works in Enugu State, Engr. Smart Ndem Okpi, said the Eke Obinagu Flyover was conceived to address recurring traffic bottlenecks and improve safety along the Enugu-Abakaliki Expressway.

Also speaking during the inspection, the President's Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the projects demonstrate the Tinubu administration's commitment to ensuring that all parts of the country benefit from federal development initiatives.

On his part, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, said a comprehensive compilation of projects executed by the administration across the six geopolitical zones would further highlight the government's achievements.

Dare noted that the ongoing inspection of projects nationwide has revealed substantial investments in infrastructure, particularly in transportation, adding that the evidence would counter claims that the administration has failed to deliver on its promises.

He cited the rehabilitation of major roads and bridges, including projects linking Enugu and Port Harcourt, as examples of the government's responsiveness to the needs of Nigerians.

According to him, once the full record of projects is assembled and presented, Nigerians will have a clearer picture of the scale of development efforts being undertaken by the current administration.
