Scottish champions Celtic have reportedly expressed interest in Chelsea defender Landon Emenalo as they look to strengthen their options at left-back before the summer transfer window closes.

The 18-year-old defender is eligible to play international football for the United States, England or Nigeria, having been born in Arizona and possessing eligibility for all three countries.

Emenalo is also the son of former Nigeria international Michael Emenalo, who represented the Super Eagles at the 1994 FIFA World Cup.

The young full-back was involved in Chelsea’s pre-season preparations and travelled with the senior squad for their tour of Australia. He started in the Blues’ entertaining 6-4 victory over Western Sydney Wanderers but remained on the bench during the match against Tottenham Hotspur.

According to reports from Sky Sports UK, Celtic have identified Emenalo as one of their potential options to provide competition and cover for experienced left-back Kieran Tierney.

The England youth international reportedly travelled to Glasgow on Wednesday as discussions over a possible move got underway.

Celtic are understood to be interested in securing a left-back on loan, although the Scottish club could also consider making the transfer permanent depending on the circumstances.

Despite being yet to make his senior competitive debut for Chelsea, Emenalo has already gained valuable first-team exposure. He has been included among the substitutes for matches in the Premier League, UEFA Champions League and Conference League.

Emenalo signed his first professional contract with Chelsea in January 2025. His current agreement with the London club is reportedly valid until June 2031.

A move to Celtic could provide the teenager with an opportunity to gain regular first-team experience and continue his development at senior level.
