Community Vigilance Leads to Arrest of Suspected Transformer Vandal in Enugu

Residents of Obollo-Afor in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State have been commended by the state police command for helping to apprehend a suspected vandal linked to attacks on public electricity infrastructure.

The commendation was made by the Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Mamman Giwa, in a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe.

According to the police, members of the community discovered the 23-year-old suspect trapped inside a transformer enclosure after he reportedly suffered severe burns. They promptly alerted the police, prompting officers from the Udenu Divisional Police Headquarters to respond.

The suspect was found unconscious at the scene and was taken to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment before being referred to a specialist facility for further care.

Police preliminary findings have reportedly connected the suspect to transformer vandalism in the area. Authorities said investigations are continuing to establish the extent of his alleged activities, identify other persons who may be involved and determine the appropriate legal action.

Commissioner Giwa praised the residents for their vigilance and cooperation, urging communities across the state to continue reporting suspicious activities that could threaten public infrastructure.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to safeguarding critical infrastructure and ensuring that those responsible for vandalism are brought to justice.
