Troops operating in Kaduna State have rescued a kidnapped couple after their abductors abandoned them and escaped following a confrontation with security forces.
The victims, identified as Hassan Isah and his wife, Juliana Hassan, were rescued in Ateli village, located in Sanga Local Government Area of the state.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the operation followed a distress report concerning the couple’s abduction in the early hours of Friday, September 11, 2026.
Troops attached to Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP), deployed at Mayir Garrison, reportedly moved into action alongside local vigilantes to track the kidnappers.
The pursuit eventually resulted in contact with the armed group, triggering an exchange of gunfire between the troops and the kidnappers.
Amid the confrontation, the bandits reportedly abandoned the couple and fled into the surrounding area, giving the troops an opportunity to secure their safe release.
However, Hassan Isah sustained injuries during the incident and was subsequently taken to General Hospital, Wamba, where he received medical attention.
Security personnel have continued efforts to locate the fleeing abductors, while troops remain deployed in the area as part of measures to prevent further attacks and maintain security.
