The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old man over the alleged defilement of a 15-year-old girl in Omifon, Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday in Akure.
According to Jimoh, the matter was reported at the Odigbo Divisional Police Station on August 2 by the girl’s guardian.
He said the case was subsequently transferred to the Gender-Based Offences Unit for a discreet investigation because of the sensitive nature of the allegation.
Jimoh explained that the girl, who worked as a domestic helper in the household, had reportedly left home several times without permission.
The guardian was said to have questioned her about where she went whenever she left the house.
According to the police, the girl allegedly disclosed that the suspect had been taking her to his late mother’s residence in Omifon, where he allegedly had sexual intercourse with her.
Following the report, police operatives commenced an investigation and subsequently arrested the suspect.
The police spokesperson said the victim had been placed under appropriate care while necessary measures were being taken in line with established procedures for cases involving alleged sexual offences against minors.
The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Felix Ohagwu, reportedly directed the Gender-Based Offences Unit to conduct a thorough and professional investigation to establish the facts surrounding the allegation.
The command said the investigation is aimed at ensuring that justice is served in accordance with the law.
