Maduka Okoye Appointed as Enugu State Ambassador by Governor Peter Mbah
Nigeria’s goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye, has been officially named a state ambassador by the Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah.
The governor made this announcement during Okoye’s visit to the Lion Building on Tuesday, June 24, 2025. During the visit, both men discussed ways to use sports to help young people and boost the state’s economy.
Governor Mbah said the decision to make Okoye an ambassador came after the football star shared plans to start a charity foundation and build a football academy in Enugu.
“It was a pleasure to welcome Super Eagles and Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye to the Lion Building today,” the governor said. “He’s a proud son of Enugu, doing great things both in Nigeria and around the world, and he wants to give back to his people.”
The governor also said the state government would provide land for the football academy and invited Okoye to join the upcoming Enugu International Marathon.
“In recognition of his success and strong support for youth development, I am proud to appoint him as an ambassador of Enugu State. He will inspire our young people, especially those in our Smart Green Schools,” Mbah added.
Okoye thanked the governor for the warm welcome and said the moment was very special to him.
“I’m truly grateful to be welcomed back by His Excellency Dr. Peter Mbah,” he said. “It was a meaningful meeting about how sports and development can move Enugu forward.”
He also praised the governor’s vision for the state and promised to support it through his planned projects.
The appointment of Maduka Okoye as Enugu State’s ambassador is more than just a title. It is a new beginning for many young dreamers. It is proof that when a community comes together with the government, professionals, and the people they can achieve great things.
Enugu State is rising, and the world is watching.
