The Enugu State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the death of a 53-year-old politician, Prince Ikechukwu Oloto, popularly known as “Okanga Mo,” in Nsukka Local Government Area of the state.

Oloto was reportedly discovered critically injured inside his residence at Odenigbo, Nsukka, on Thursday evening.

Police spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the incident on Friday, saying officers were alerted at about 5:45 p.m. on September 17 that the politician had been found in a pool of blood.

According to Ndukwe, police operatives who arrived at the scene observed deep suspected machete wounds to Oloto’s head and stomach.

He was immediately taken to a hospital for medical attention but was pronounced dead by a doctor.

The police spokesperson said the deceased’s remains had subsequently been transferred to a mortuary, where an autopsy would be conducted.

Ndukwe added that detectives were investigating the circumstances surrounding the killing, while efforts were underway to identify and apprehend those responsible.

Oloto, an indigene of Nsukka Local Government Area, was said to have been attacked at his home, although the exact motive for the incident has not been established.

Reports circulating on social media suggested that a knife may have been used during the attack, but the claim had not been independently confirmed by the police at the time of reporting.

The police have appealed for information that could assist investigators in determining what happened and bringing the suspected perpetrators to justice.
