An explosion struck the United States Embassy, Oslo, Norway early Sunday 8 March 2026, according to Norwegian police. Authorities said the blast caused minor damage to the building, but no injuries were reported.
The incident happened at a time when security has been increased at many American embassies and consulates around the world. This follows the growing tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
In recent days, several American diplomatic buildings in Gulf countries that host U.S. troops have reportedly been targeted by Iranian retaliatory strikes, including locations in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.
Police spokesperson Mikael Dellemyr confirmed that the explosion hit the embassy compound in Oslo. He explained that the blast occurred at the entrance to the consular section of the compound.
Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud explosion near the embassy building in western Oslo around 1 a.m.
An 18-year-old student, Sebastian Toerstad, told Reuters that he saw thick smoke on the street when he drove past the embassy shortly after the blast.
According to him, the explosion caused some damage to the entrance area of the embassy.
Police said they have started searching for those responsible for the explosion. Authorities also confirmed that no additional explosive devices have been found in the area.
In a separate statement, the Oslo Police District said officers are in contact with the U.S. embassy and confirmed that no one was injured in the incident.
Meanwhile, according to a CNN reporter that has contacted the embassy, the United States Department of State, and Norwegian emergency services for further comments on the incident.
