The Enugu State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) says it is optimistic about its chances in the 2027 general elections, citing increased grassroots support and what it described as the strong performance of Governor Peter Mbah’s administration.
Speaking on the party’s growing influence in the state, the APC chairman said the party’s renewed strength began after members of the former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leadership in Enugu defected to the APC in October 2025 amid internal disagreements within their former party.
According to him, the decision to join the APC was motivated by the belief that closer alignment with the party controlling the federal government would position Enugu State to benefit more from national initiatives and federal intervention programmes.
He explained that since assuming office as the state APC chairman in March 2026, his major focus has been fostering unity within the party and expanding its support base across communities in Enugu, a state long considered a PDP stronghold.
The chairman also claimed that Enugu has experienced greater federal presence since the political realignment, referencing visits by President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, alongside the hosting of several federal events and regional meetings in the state.
Addressing allegations that development activities had slowed under the current administration, he rejected the criticism, insisting that key infrastructure projects were progressing as planned. He noted that many projects appearing nearly completed from the outside were still undergoing interior fittings and technical installations, making the remaining work less noticeable to residents.
He listed smart schools, healthcare centres, road projects and other infrastructure developments as some of the ongoing investments spread across the state.
Commending Governor Peter Mbah, the APC chairman described his leadership as impressive and praised the administration for completing previously abandoned projects while continuing to invest in education, healthcare, infrastructure and security.
On the party’s strategy for 2027, he said the APC would intensify its grassroots mobilisation efforts and encourage more residents to become active members of the party. He added that recent electoral successes recorded by the APC were an indication of increasing public trust in its leadership.
The chairman further expressed confidence that the ruling party would remain dominant ahead of the next general elections, arguing that opposition parties would face an uphill task in challenging the APC’s growing popularity in Enugu State.
He also reiterated his support for Nigeria’s power rotation principle, describing zoning as an important feature of the country’s political arrangement that promotes balance and inclusiveness.
Highlighting the administration’s broader achievements, he pointed to improvements in security, education and infrastructure, including investments in technology-driven learning, modern healthcare facilities and security initiatives, which he said were helping to lay the foundation for sustainable development across Enugu State.
He maintained that the APC would continue engaging communities and promoting policies aimed at improving the welfare of residents while sustaining the state’s development momentum in the build-up to the 2027 elections.# Mbah: Enugu APC chairman confident of governor’s 2027 prospects
