The incident began when Okpara intended to make a small offering transaction and later transfer a much larger sum to her own bank account. Due to a sudden error on her mobile device, the heavy amount was routed directly to the church's account instead. Upon opening her transaction receipt and realizing what had happened, she experienced immediate shock and anxiety. She initially attempted to resolve the issue traditionally by visiting her bank and filing a complaint with electronic payment platforms. However, she was informed that recovering the funds would require additional bureaucratic steps, such as obtaining a formal court order.
Feeling hopeless and pressed by the rightful owners of the money, Okpara decided to take her appeal to social media. She recorded and published a video explaining her situation, emphasizing that the funds were not meant for an offering and pleading with members of the public to help her trace and contact the church. The video quickly went viral across various digital platforms, capturing widespread attention and sparking intense conversations among social media users who watched to see how the ministry would handle the public appeal.
Following the rapid spread of the video, the leadership of Streams of Joy International responded swiftly. The church stated that it had not received any formal calls, emails, or direct messages from Okpara prior to the publication of her video. Nevertheless, upon becoming aware of the viral clip, church representatives immediately utilized the contact information provided in the footage to reach out to her directly. Officials explained that the ministry routinely processes and resolves reports of erroneous transactions through standard verification protocols.
After a brief investigation and confirmation of the transaction details, the issue was promptly resolved. Speaking to the press after recovering her money, Okpara confirmed that she received a full 100 percent refund early in the morning following a call from a member of the church's staff. She expressed immense gratitude and clarified that her intention in posting the video was simply to seek help in tracing the funds rather than to damage the reputation of Pastor Jerry Eze or his ministry.
