The Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected reports that it has already constituted its campaign council for the 2027 governorship election.
The clarification was issued on Saturday by the chairman of the party’s State Caretaker Committee, Ikpegbu Emeka-Yellow, who described the reports as inaccurate.
The party urged members of the public to disregard claims suggesting that its governorship campaign council had been inaugurated or unveiled in the state.
The Abia PDP further reaffirmed that Dr. Anthony Iheanyichukwu Ibeabuchi remains its recognised governorship candidate for the 2027 election, stating that his name was duly submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
According to the party, the nomination was made in line with the 1999 Constitution, as amended, the Electoral Act 2026 and the provisions of the PDP constitution.
The party said it would announce its campaign council at the appropriate time.
It explained that the council, when constituted, would be responsible for coordinating the party’s campaign activities and mobilisation across Abia State ahead of the 2027 poll.
The clarification comes amid increasing political activity across the country as political parties begin preparations for the 2027 general elections.
