A 30-year-old Italy-based businessman has been arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu after he allegedly ingested 98 wraps of cocaine.
The arrest has attracted attention because of the quantity of the suspected drug reportedly recovered from the man after he was placed under observation by NDLEA officers.
According to the NDLEA, the suspect, identified as Joseph Cyril, was arrested while preparing to travel from Nigeria to Europe. The agency said he was travelling to Italy through Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and France when he was intercepted at the airport.

The NDLEA said its officers became suspicious and arrested him before he could leave the country.

During the observation period, the suspect allegedly expelled a total of 98 wraps of cocaine.
The recovered wraps reportedly weighed 1.510 kilograms.

Cocaine Allegedly Ingested in Awka

In another operation, approximately 2.3 kilograms of Loud, a synthetic strain of cannabis, was reportedly intercepted in a shipment coming from the United States. These cases show that drug traffickers continue to explore different methods of moving illegal substances across Nigeria’s borders.
NDLEA Increasing Its Fight Against Drug Trafficking
The latest arrest comes amid continued efforts by the NDLEA to disrupt drug trafficking networks operating within and through Nigeria.
