The Accord Party has questioned the commitment of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to a peaceful Osun State governorship election, citing the absence of its candidate, Muniru Oyebamiji, at the signing of the election peace accord.
Accord’s campaign spokesperson, Bamidele Salam, raised the concern during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he also alleged that the APC had been responsible for acts of aggression in the state ahead of the election.
Salam said Governor Ademola Adeleke had demonstrated a commitment to a peaceful electoral process, contrasting this with what he described as Oyebamiji’s failure to personally attend the peace accord ceremony.
According to him, the APC candidate’s absence raised questions about his personal commitment to maintaining peace during the election.
“Governor Ademola Adeleke is committed to peace,” Salam said, adding that Oyebamiji’s decision not to personally attend the peace-signing event was, in his view, an indication that he lacked a similar commitment.
The Accord spokesperson further accused the APC of contributing to heightened political tension in Osun in the weeks leading up to the governorship poll.
He claimed that residents and independent observers familiar with recent developments in the state would identify the APC as the main aggressor in the build-up to the election.
The allegations come amid increased political activity and tension as parties intensify their campaigns ahead of Saturday’s Osun governorship election.
The poll is expected to take place across all 30 local government areas of the state, with political parties and stakeholders calling on supporters to maintain peace and participate in the electoral process.
The APC and its candidate have not, in the report, been quoted responding to the allegations made by the Accord Party spokesperson.
