Gideon Okeke Says He Does Not Accept Movie Roles Below N100 Million Budget

Gideon Okeke Reveals His Stand on Low-Budget Nollywood Movies

Nigerian actor Gideon Okeke has attracted attention after a social media post reported that he does not accept movie roles in productions with a budget below N100 million. The statement has started conversations about the value of actors, movie production costs and the business side of Nollywood.

According to the post shared by Instablog9ja, Okeke made it clear that he has a minimum standard when considering movie projects. The claim has generated reactions from fans and people interested in the Nigerian entertainment industry. While the N100 million figure comes from the social media report, it is important to note that the exact statement should be understood in the context of the post being circulated.

Gideon Okeke is an experienced Nigerian actor, television presenter and model. He became widely known after appearing in the first edition of Big Brother Nigeria and later gained major recognition through the popular television series Tinsel. He has also built a strong movie career over the years.

The actor has appeared in several notable Nigerian films, including Relentless, A Place in the Stars, 93 Days, Loving Rona and Tòkunbò. His role in 93 Days, which told the story of Nigeria's fight against the Ebola outbreak, was particularly recognised, earning him an AMVCA nomination.

Okeke has also spoken publicly about the business side of acting. In 2022, he explained why he had not appeared in some high-budget movies for several years, describing his decisions as business-related. He suggested that actors sometimes have to make difficult choices about the projects they accept.

His reported N100 million position raises an important question about how Nollywood values professional actors. Movie production requires money for actors, locations, equipment, costumes, transportation, marketing and many other expenses. A bigger production budget can potentially provide better resources, although a large budget does not automatically guarantee a successful movie.

For an established actor, choosing projects carefully can also be a way of protecting his professional image and ensuring that his time and talent are properly valued. At the same time, filmmakers may have different financial limitations, especially independent producers working with smaller budgets.

Whether people agree with Gideon Okeke or not, his reported statement has created another discussion about money and professionalism in Nollywood. It shows that acting is not only about fame or appearing on screen. For many professionals, it is also a business where experience, talent, time and reputation have financial value.

As Nollywood continues to grow, conversations about fair pay, production budgets and better working conditions for actors will likely remain important. Okeke's reported position may therefore encourage filmmakers and actors to have more open discussions about the true cost and value of producing quality Nigerian films.
