Real Madrid Defender Raul Asencio Acquitted in Video Case

Real Madrid defender Raul Asencio has been completely cleared of legal charges following a high-profile investigation into the alleged non-consensual sharing of a sexually explicit video. A Spanish court officially acquitted the young footballer after prosecutors decided to drop all allegations against him. The legal case originally stemmed from an incident back in June 2023 at a beach club located in the Canary Islands, which involved a recorded sexual encounter. While Asencio was never accused of actually filming the footage, he initially faced legal scrutiny over allegations that he had shared the video.

The legal proceedings took a definitive turn when prosecutors chose to drop the charges against Asencio and reduced sentencing requests for three other former Real Madrid youth players. This shift happened after the victims told the court that they had chosen to forgive the defendants. Consequently, the other three individuals involved—who faced direct charges for recording and sharing explicit videos of two teenage women, including one who was underage—received one-year suspended prison sentences. These suspended sentences are contingent upon them committing no further offences during that period. With the court ruling in his favor, Asencio walked away legally vindicated from the core video-sharing accusations.

Following the court's decision, Raul Asencio broke his silence by releasing a public statement. He expressed gratitude to his family, friends, legal team, and Real Madrid for standing by him through a difficult judicial process. He noted that he chose to remain silent while trusting the legal system to uncover the truth, emphasizing the heavy emotional toll that investigations take on families and individuals.

Despite his legal clearance in the video case, Asencio's troubles are not entirely over regarding off-pitch conduct. Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho confirmed that the club has opened separate disciplinary proceedings against the defender. This disciplinary action comes in the wake of an unrelated incident where Asencio was caught driving under the influence of alcohol, leading to a court fine and a temporary driving license suspension. Mourinho voiced clear frustration over cumulative off-field mistakes, stressing that representing a prestigious institution like Real Madrid demands professional responsibility twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.

Even though a disciplinary investigation is underway, Mourinho indicated that Asencio remains a part of the team's sporting plans. The defender is currently sidelined due to an ongoing muscle injury that has kept him out of action this season, giving him time to recover physically while club officials resolve the internal disciplinary matters. Asencio has since issued an apology for his drink-driving incident, taking full responsibility and vowing to focus entirely on his football career and commitment to the club moving forward.
