The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 36-year-old content creator, identified as Anulika Onyeanusia, following allegations that minors were involved in sexually explicit material circulated on social media.
The arrest followed the emergence of disturbing video footage that reportedly circulated widely online, prompting social media users to demand that law enforcement authorities investigate and identify those responsible.
According to the police, the suspect was taken into custody during an operation in Onitsha, where officers reportedly rescued four children aged two, three, six and nine.
The authorities also said several items considered relevant to the investigation were recovered from the location.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Anambra Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, on Thursday night.
Ikenga said investigators were working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged offence and determine whether other individuals were involved.
He added that the suspect's husband had also been invited for questioning as investigators seek to establish whether he had any connection to the allegations.
The police said the investigation remains ongoing, while the suspect remains in custody as authorities work to establish the facts of the case and determine appropriate next steps.
The allegations have generated significant concern online, particularly because of the reported involvement of young children. The police have urged that the investigation be allowed to proceed as authorities work to clarify the circumstances surrounding the viral material.
