During a recent campaign rally, Mrs Titi Abubakar, the wife of the African Democratic Congress presidential candidate, addressed public doubts concerning her husband's ambition by declaring that he is not interested in taking public funds. Instead, she emphasized that his primary motivation for seeking the presidency in the upcoming 2027 general elections is to give back to the country and improve the livelihoods of everyday citizens. Her comments were made to clear the air amid ongoing discussions about his political motivations and his age.
Addressing a gathering of supporters, Mrs Abubakar described her husband as a proven philanthropist and an experienced hand in governance who does not need to learn on the job. She pointed out that because of his background and track record, he is a sellable political candidate capable of handling the nation's pressing challenges. She dismissed criticisms questioning why a man approaching his eighties would still vie for the highest office, insisting that his drive comes from a deep desire to use his wealth of experience to elevate the country.
Furthermore, Mrs Abubakar shared that her husband's vision includes grooming and mentoring younger generations of Nigerians in the intricacies of leadership and governance. She expressed confidence that once he takes office and implements meaningful reforms, citizens will naturally appreciate his dedication and demand that he extend his service beyond an initial term. She noted that although her husband previously hinted at serving only a single term, the positive impact of his administration would likely cause the public to call for a second term.
