French winger Allan Saint-Maximin made the difficult decision to leave the Mexican football club Club America after his children were subjected to racist abuse while attending school in Mexico. The former Newcastle United star, who joined the Mexican team earlier, spoke out emotionally on social media to address the painful situation.
Saint-Maximin explained that while he has learned to handle personal criticism and attacks directed at himself throughout his football career, crossing the line to target his children was something he would never tolerate. He emphasized that his family's safety and well-being remain his highest priority. In his statement, he noted that the problem is not the color of a person's skin, but rather the quality of people's thoughts. He made it clear that hate and discrimination have no place in modern society and that he will always stand firm to protect his loved ones from any threats.
Following the incident, Club America released an official statement expressing their absolute solidarity with the player and his family.
The club firmly condemned any form of discrimination or violence that threatens human dignity. Teammates also showed visible support, and supporters expressed sadness over losing a player of his high caliber, but understood that family comes first. Saint-Maximin's brave choice highlights the ongoing challenges that athletes and their families face, showing that some things in life are far more important than football.
