The chairman of Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area, Eric Odo, has announced the introduction of free mobile healthcare services for elderly people in the area.
Odo made the announcement on Friday during a meeting with senior citizens held in Ogbede, the administrative headquarters of the council in Enugu State.
According to him, the new program will provide free medical services to residents who are 60 years old and above. He explained that the local government plans to recruit health workers who will travel across the 20 wards in the council area to provide healthcare services directly to elderly residents in their communities.
The chairman said the initiative is aimed at improving the health and well-being of older people, especially those living in rural areas who may find it difficult to travel to hospitals or health centers.
Odo also revealed that the council had already discussed the program with the Enugu State Primary Healthcare Management Board and the Enugu State Ministry of Health.
“We have informed the State Primary Healthcare Management Board and the Ministry of Health about our plan to start this program,” he said.
He explained that the mobile healthcare service is part of the promises made to the people during the election campaign and assured residents that the council is committed to fulfilling those promises.
“The aim of this program is to support the health of our elderly citizens. This is the Igbo-Etiti we all prayed for, and we must work hard to improve the lives of our people. It is something we promised, and we will make sure we deliver,” Odo said.
