Tinubu Picks Yari to Lead APC’s 2027 Presidential Campaign Team

By Isaac Mission

President Bola Tinubu has unveiled the leadership structure for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign ahead of the 2027 election, naming former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, as Director-General and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, as Secretary.

The campaign council, announced by the State House, brings together serving governors, lawmakers, former political office holders and communication experts as the ruling party begins preparations for Tinubu’s re-election bid.

Tinubu will chair the campaign council, with Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda serving as Vice Chairmen.

As Director-General, Yari is expected to oversee the campaign’s day-to-day operations, while Uzodimma will serve as Secretary. APC National Secretary Ajibola Bashiru was appointed Deputy Secretary, with Hadiza Bala-Usman named Assistant Secretary.

A number of senior APC figures were also included in the advisory team. They include former party chairman Bisi Akande, veteran politician Segun Osoba, former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha, former APC chairman Abdullahi Adamu and Senator Florence Ita Giwa.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni were appointed Deputy Directors-General for the southern and northern parts of the country. They will work alongside Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele and Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau on coordinating the geopolitical blocs.

Former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole will oversee mobilisation as Deputy Director-General, while the President’s Chief of Staff will handle administration in another Deputy Director-General role.

James Faleke, a key figure in the APC’s previous presidential campaign, returns as Deputy Director-General for Election Planning, Coordination and Monitoring. He will supervise the party’s zonal election directors across the six geopolitical zones.

The campaign’s legal team will be headed by Muiz Adeyemi Banire, with Liman Hassan and Babatunde Ogala serving as deputies. Attorney-General of the Federation Lateef Fagbemi and other legal professionals will also participate in the directorate.

For media and strategic communications, Information and National Orientation Minister Mohammed Idris Malagi will coordinate activities alongside former presidential spokesman Dele Alake, Bayo Onanuga and Lanre Issa-Onilu.

Tunde Rahman, Sunday Dare, Daniel Bwala and APC spokesman Felix Morka were named coordinating Deputy Directors in the media directorate. Segun Dada will retain his position as Director of New Media, having held the same role during the 2022/2023 campaign.

Five spokespersons were also announced, with Dele Alake serving as the lead spokesperson alongside Alwan Hassan, Ayobami Oyalowo, Kemi Asekun-Shittu and Adamu Fanda.

Tinubu directed members of the campaign council to work towards securing victory for the APC at the 2027 polls. He also instructed the various directorates to accommodate other party members whose contributions could strengthen the campaign.

The President urged the campaign team to make the administration’s record a major focus of its message to Nigerians, arguing that his government had delivered on its promises and placed the country on a path towards economic recovery and growth.

With the announcement, the APC has moved its preparations for the 2027 presidential election into a more organised phase, bringing together prominent party leaders and experienced campaign officials to coordinate Tinubu’s re-election effort.
