IMT Under Prof. Gozie Ogbodo Witnesses Major Transformation

By Isaac Mission

The Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu, is undergoing a remarkable transformation under the leadership of its Rector, Professor Gozie Sunday Ogbodo, with significant improvements recorded across academic, administrative and infrastructural sectors since he assumed office in November 2024.

Widely described by staff, students and alumni as a new era for the institution, the administration has focused on repositioning IMT as a centre of excellence driven by innovation, discipline, practical skills acquisition and global competitiveness.

One of the administration's notable achievements has been the accreditation of all academic programmes, alongside extensive renovation of hostels, lecture halls and other critical facilities to create a more conducive learning environment. The institution has also embarked on the digitisation of its records from inception, modernising administrative processes and improving efficiency.

Professor Ogbodo's leadership has prioritised quality assurance, accountability and institutional discipline, while promoting research, entrepreneurship and industry collaboration to equip students with practical skills required in today's job market.

Staff welfare has equally received attention through improved working conditions, renovation of staff quarters and professional development initiatives designed to enhance productivity and academic excellence.

The administration has also strengthened partnerships with alumni, government agencies, development organisations and industry stakeholders, attracting greater support for the institution's growth and long-term development.

Student welfare remains a key priority, with regular engagement between management and students helping to foster a peaceful academic atmosphere built on dialogue, responsible leadership and mutual respect.

Major institutional events, including the inaugural Alumni Homecoming and Founders' Day celebrations, have further revived the institute's relationship with its graduates, encouraging alumni participation in the institution's development.

Before his appointment as Rector, Professor Ogbodo built an impressive academic career spanning more than three decades. A renowned legal scholar, he obtained his LL.B. from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, qualified at the Nigerian Law School, and later earned both a Master of Laws (LL.M.) and a Doctor of Juridical Science (S.J.D.) from Golden Gate University in San Francisco, California.

He has served in several academic and administrative positions, including Professor of Law at the University of Benin, Adjunct Lecturer at Golden Gate University, Dean of the Faculty of Law at Godfrey Okoye University and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), among other leadership roles.

An accomplished researcher, Professor Ogbodo has authored numerous books, book chapters and more than 30 scholarly journal articles covering environmental law, international law, climate change, sustainable development, human rights and public policy. His contributions have earned him several honours and fellowships from respected professional and academic institutions.

With a vision centred on innovation, integrity and academic excellence, Professor Ogbodo continues to reposition IMT for greater national and international relevance. His reforms have restored confidence among stakeholders and placed the institution on a path of sustained growth, reinforcing its reputation as one of Nigeria's leading institutions of higher learning.
