Obi Calls for Stronger Security Measures After Enugu Church Abduction

By Isaac Mission

The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has urged the Federal Government and security agencies to take urgent and decisive steps to address Nigeria’s growing insecurity following the abduction of worshippers during a church service in Enugu State.

In a statement shared on his official X account, Obi described the attack as a painful reflection of the country’s worsening security situation, stressing that Nigerians should never have to fear attending places of worship or carrying out their daily activities.

The former Anambra State governor expressed sympathy with the victims and their families, saying the incident highlights the urgent need for stronger efforts to safeguard lives and property across the country.

Obi noted that insecurity has expanded beyond states traditionally affected by insurgency, banditry and violent crimes, warning that the challenge has now become a nationwide concern requiring immediate attention.

He maintained that every Nigerian, regardless of ethnic background, religion or region, deserves to live in safety and peace, adding that no citizen should feel unsafe while worshipping, working, studying or relaxing at home.

Calling for national unity, Obi urged political leaders, security agencies and citizens to treat insecurity as a shared national challenge rather than viewing it through political, ethnic or religious divisions.

He also appealed to security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the abducted victims, bring the perpetrators to justice and strengthen measures to prevent similar attacks.

According to him, Nigerians must not accept recurring attacks as normal, emphasizing that every life is precious and deserves maximum protection.

Obi expressed confidence that with committed leadership, effective security strategies and collective national resolve, Nigeria can overcome its security challenges and build a safer future for all citizens.
