The Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Uche Ugwu, has commended the administration of Governor Peter Mbah for placing greater emphasis on the development of rural communities across the state.
Ugwu gave the commendation during a working visit to the Enugu State Community and Social Development Agency (CSDA), where he reviewed some of the agency’s ongoing interventions and community development initiatives.
The CSDA is headed by Hon. Monday Diamond Ani, popularly known as Odoziobodo.
The Speaker said he was impressed by the administration’s approach to community development, particularly its efforts to ensure that government interventions extend beyond urban centres to communities where residents have long faced challenges relating to basic infrastructure and social amenities.
According to Ugwu, the rural development agenda being implemented through the CSDA reflects the philosophy of Governor Mbah’s administration, which operates under the mantra, “Tomorrow is Here.”
He described the approach as one capable of producing meaningful and sustainable development when government institutions, community leaders and residents work together.
Ugwu stressed that collaboration among government agencies and other stakeholders remained essential to achieving inclusive development and ensuring that projects being implemented at the grassroots level respond directly to the needs of the people.
Speaker Commends CSDA’s Community Interventions
The Speaker also praised the CSDA for the interventions it has undertaken in various rural communities across Enugu State.
He noted that the agency’s programmes have the potential to improve living conditions and strengthen the capacity of communities to participate actively in their own development.
Ugwu further acknowledged the performance of the agency’s General Manager, Monday Diamond Ani, describing his achievements within a relatively short period in office as encouraging.
He said the progress recorded by the agency demonstrated the importance of having committed leadership capable of translating government policies into practical interventions at the community level.
“The Agency’s progress is commendable,” the Speaker said.
He urged the leadership of the CSDA to sustain the momentum and continue to work closely with communities to ensure that development projects are properly identified, implemented and maintained.
Call for Stronger Partnership With Communities
Ugwu also called on community stakeholders, including President-Generals of town unions and traditional rulers, to strengthen their relationship with the agency.
He said greater cooperation between traditional institutions, community leadership and government agencies would help create an environment where development projects can be delivered more effectively.
The Speaker emphasized that community participation was critical to the success and sustainability of development projects, particularly those designed to address specific needs identified by residents.
He encouraged community leaders to see themselves as partners in the development process and to support initiatives that would bring lasting benefits to their people.
According to him, government alone cannot achieve the desired level of development without the active involvement of the people at the grassroots.
CSDA Boss Reaffirms Commitment
Responding to the Speaker, the General Manager of the CSDA, Monday Diamond Ani, expressed appreciation for the visit and continued support of the House of Assembly.
Ani acknowledged the role of the legislature in creating an enabling environment for government agencies to function effectively, particularly through supportive legislation and collaboration with the executive arm.
He said the agency remained committed to working with government institutions, traditional rulers, community leaders and other relevant stakeholders to implement sustainable development programmes across Enugu State.
The CSDA boss explained that the agency’s interventions are designed to respond to the specific needs identified by communities, rather than adopting a one-size-fits-all approach to development.
He said the agency would continue to pursue initiatives capable of improving the quality of life of residents while encouraging communities to take ownership of projects implemented in their areas.
Ani also expressed appreciation to Governor Peter Mbah for prioritising the needs of rural communities as part of his administration’s development agenda.
“I appreciate the Executive Governor of Enugu State, Dr Peter Mbah, for prioritising community needs in his administration,” Ani said.
Visit Highlights Ongoing Development Projects
The Speaker’s visit also provided an opportunity for the leadership of the House of Assembly and the CSDA to discuss ongoing community development programmes being implemented across the state.
The projects are being funded by the Enugu State Government under the leadership of Governor Mbah.
The engagement was aimed at strengthening institutional cooperation and ensuring that the government’s rural development programmes continue to receive the necessary support.
Ugwu’s visit comes amid the state government’s broader push to expand development interventions across communities and ensure that residents outside the major urban centres also benefit from government investments.
The Speaker reiterated the importance of sustained cooperation among the executive, legislature, government agencies and community leadership in achieving meaningful development.
He said such partnerships would help ensure that government policies are translated into projects and programmes that have a direct and measurable impact on residents.
The CSDA leadership, on its part, pledged to sustain its engagement with communities and other stakeholders as it works towards delivering development interventions that address identified local needs across Enugu State.
