Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has debunked a viral social media claim alleging that the director of her upcoming movie, The Four: No One Fights Alone, died in a fatal accident.

The claim surfaced on X on Monday, August 10, 2026, alongside a video of Akindele crying during an emotional Instagram Live session.

An X user reportedly shared the old footage as though it showed Akindele reacting to the alleged death of the film’s director. The post further claimed that the actress had spoken with the supposed director shortly before the alleged accident.

The user also suggested that the reported death could affect the release of The Four, which Akindele has announced for December 11, 2026.

However, Akindele quickly responded to the post, dismissing the claim and questioning whether the user was seeking social media engagement.

The actress wrote: “Your words shall return to you in Jesus name. Are you looking for engagements Abi? God will give you!!!”

The viral claim was also contradicted by the fact that Akindele herself is the writer, director and producer of The Four: No One Fights Alone through her production outfit, Funke Akindele Network (FAAN TV).

The upcoming movie features a star-studded cast, including Bisola Aiyeola, Chioma Akpotha, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Timini Egbuson, Lateef Adedimeji, Ali Nuhu and Uzor Arukwe, among others.

Old Video Misrepresented

The footage used to support the viral claim was not recent and had no connection with The Four.

The video dates back to April 2024, when Akindele became emotional during an Instagram Live session following the death of actress Adejumoke Aderounmu, who was known for her role as Esther in Jenifa’s Diary.

At the time, Aderounmu’s death generated public discussion after her brother, Adeola Aderounmu, made claims concerning Akindele’s alleged lack of contact with the actress before her death.

Akindele subsequently addressed the claims during an emotional live broadcast, explaining that she was unaware that Aderounmu had been ill or needed assistance.

The actress also became emotional after a social media user made a disturbing remark involving her children.

The old footage was therefore unrelated to the upcoming movie and did not represent a reaction to the alleged death of anyone associated with The Four.

Meanwhile, The Four: No One Fights Alone remains scheduled for release in Nigerian cinemas on December 11, 2026.
