FG Begins Free Training for Technical School Teachers Nationwide

The Federal Government has launched a new tuition free training programme aimed at improving the quality of technical education across the country. The initiative, known as the Technical Teachers Training  Programme (TTTP), was announced by the Federal Ministry of Education and is set to begin in the 2025/2026 academic year.

According to the ministry, the TTTP is a one year Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) that will focus on upgrading the teaching skills of secondary school teachers in technical and vocational subjects. The program will be offered free of charge and is part of efforts to strengthen Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Nigeria.

The Ministry of Education said the program is designed to align teachers’ knowledge with current industry standards and improve student learning outcomes in technical fields.

The application portal for the training program will open on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, and close on Monday, July 21, 2025.

Eligible applicants must be teachers currently working in public secondary technical schools or colleges and must have at least five years of service remaining before retirement.

The curriculum for the PGDE will include a wide range of technical and vocational fields such as: Technical and Vocational Education, Building Technology, Business Education, Home Economics and Hospitality Agricultural Education, Computer Science Education, Automobile Technology, Electrical and Electronics.

Officials say the program will equip teachers with modern teaching methods and tools needed to prepare students for the demands of today’s industries and future job markets.

The training will be conducted in collaboration with six selected universities across the country. These institutions include: Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, University of Nigeria (UNN), Nsukka, Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna University of Benin (UNIBEN),Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi and Adeyemi Federal University of Education, Ondo.
These schools will host the first group of participants under the pilot phase of the program.

The Federal Ministry of Education said the goal of the initiative is to build a stronger technical workforce by improving how technical subjects are taught in schools.

Officials believe that better trained teachers will lead to better prepared students who will be ready to take on jobs in industries like construction, ICT, agriculture, electronics, and more.

“This  program is a key step in making Nigeria’s education system more competitive globally and ensuring that our students can meet the demands of the 21st-century workforce,” the Ministry said in a statement.

The launch of the Technical Teachers Training Program shows the federal government’s continued focus on educational reform and workforce development. Interested and qualified teachers are encouraged to apply when the portal opens on July 8.

The initiative is expected to play a major role in raising the standard of technical education across the country and preparing young Nigerians for future career opportunities.
