Enugu Approves ₦30m for Training 1,000 Technical and Vocational Teachers
Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah has approved the sum of ₦30 million for the training of 1,000 teachers under the Science, Technical and Vocational Schools Management Board (STVSMB) in Enugu State. The training, which is scheduled to take place in August 2025 at the Enugu State College of Education (Technical), ESCET, is part of the state’s “Train the Trainers” initiative. This program is a key part of the government’s broader education reform aimed at improving technical and vocational education.
Dr. Amaka Ngene, the Executive Chairman of STVSMB, announced the approval during an emergency management meeting held at the board’s headquarters. The meeting was attended by all Heads of Departments and Directors. Dr. Ngene described the training as a “game-changer” and explained that its purpose is to equip teachers with modern teaching methods, digital tools, and practical skills needed to prepare students for the future job market.
The training will focus on several key areas, including technical pedagogy and hands on instruction, curriculum modernization for STEM and vocational education, digital literacy, smart classroom tools, innovation in skills development, and safety protocols in workshop environments. Through this initiative, selected teachers will be trained as Master Trainers, who will later pass on the knowledge to other teachers across technical and vocational schools in the state.
This intervention is part of the Mbah administration’s “Disruptive Education Agenda,” which includes other major reforms such as the introduction of Smart Green Schools, professional teacher categorization, unified education data systems, and digital literacy programs for both educators and students. According to Dr. Ngene, the training is not just a onetime program, but a strategic approach to make Enugu’s vocational education system globally competitive.
She praised the governor’s commitment to improving human capital through continued investment in teacher development. All departments under STVSMB have been directed to complete all logistics and participant coordination without delay. Additional details regarding the training schedule and facilitators will be released by the board in the coming days.
