His death was announced on Thursday by the Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri, through a post on his official X handle.
Governor Fintiri described Mustapha as “a man of service, dignity, and duty” whose legacy will remain in the hearts of the people of Adamawa. He also offered prayers for the Mustapha royal family, the Lamido of Adamawa, and everyone mourning the loss, asking Allah to grant the late elder statesman Aljannah Firdaus.
Mustapha, who was the elder brother of the Lamido of Adamawa, held the traditional title of Sardauna Adamawa.
He joined the Nigeria Customs Service as a cadet officer and rose to the top position of Comptroller-General in 1999. During his leadership, he was known for strengthening anti-smuggling operations and taking part in key national task forces against economic crimes.
In recognition of his work, he received the Ministerial Award for Outstanding Performance in 1988.
Mustapha retired from the Customs Service in December 2003, after serving for more than 30 years. Until his death, he remained a respected figure in both the Customs community and the Adamawa Emirate.
