Obi Says Kogi, Benue, Enugu Grievances Expose Wider Governance Challenges

The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has raised concerns over what he described as deep-rooted governance challenges reflected in the demands and frustrations of residents across Kogi, Benue and Enugu states.

Obi, in a post on his social media handle, said his interactions with communities in the three states showed that Nigerians were asking for basic necessities rather than unrealistic or extravagant benefits from government.

During his engagements in Olamaboro in Kogi State, Otukpa in Benue State and Obollo-Afor in Enugu State, the former Anambra State governor said residents repeatedly highlighted insecurity, unemployment, poor healthcare and inadequate educational opportunities as major concerns.

According to Obi, the similarity of the challenges raised in communities separated by geography points to problems that require national attention rather than isolated interventions.

He began the tour in Kogi State, where he met with community stakeholders and NDC supporters. He reiterated that security, healthcare, education and poverty reduction would remain central to his political agenda.

In Benue and Enugu, Obi also interacted with traders and small business operators, focusing on the economic difficulties affecting their livelihoods.

He argued that governments have a responsibility to create the right conditions for small businesses to survive and grow, particularly at a time when many Nigerians are struggling with rising economic pressures.

The NDC presidential candidate also called on Nigerians to participate actively in the 2027 elections, stressing that voting should be accompanied by efforts to protect the integrity of ballots cast.

Beyond political engagements, Obi visited traditional rulers and participated in a birthday celebration for a community leader, activities he said were part of efforts to maintain closer relationships with citizens and rebuild confidence between the people and those seeking to govern them.

Obi maintained that his vision is for a Nigeria where government responds effectively to the fundamental needs of its citizens.

He ended his message by reaffirming his belief that a better Nigeria is achievable, declaring: “A New Nigeria is POssible.”
