The Enugu State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC) for taking its 2027 re-election campaign to Nsukka Zone, alleging that the area has received little attention from the state government.
The APC recently commenced its campaign in Enugu North Senatorial District in support of the re-election bids of Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah and President Bola Tinubu.
Reacting in a statement issued on Saturday, the ADC Media team urged residents of Nsukka Zone not to be swayed by the APC's campaign activities, accusing the ruling party of remembering the area mainly when elections are approaching.
The opposition party questioned the decision to begin the campaign in Nsukka, arguing that the zone had allegedly been left behind in terms of infrastructure and government projects.
According to the ADC, more than three years into Governor Mbah's administration, no kilometre of road in Enugu North Senatorial District had been completed by the government.
The party also alleged that the administration's claim of completing about 1,000 kilometres of roads across Enugu State did not translate into significant road projects in Nsukka Zone.
It further claimed that some of the roads reportedly completed by the administration were already deteriorating.
The ADC singled out the demolition of Ogige Market in Nsukka as what it described as the administration's major completed project in the area.
On political appointments, the party alleged that Enugu North had received little representation beyond statutory commissioner positions, adding that some appointments made this year were primarily aimed at political mobilisation ahead of the elections.
The opposition party also criticised the government over the persistent flooding around Ugwuoye Junction, claiming that efforts to address the drainage problem had yet to yield results.
The ADC argued that the timing of the APC's campaign was significant, noting that the party moved into Nsukka shortly after the campaign restriction was lifted.
It maintained that the people of Enugu North deserved sustained development rather than attention focused largely on election periods.
The party therefore called on residents of the zone to scrutinise the government's record and promises ahead of the 2027 elections.
