Enugu East Declares Governor Peter Mbah as Sole Candidate for 2027

Stakeholders and residents of Enugu East Senatorial District have unanimously endorsed Governor Peter Mbah as their sole candidate for the 2027 governorship election. They advised other politicians not to waste resources contesting against him, stressing that their support for Mbah transcends political party lines.

The endorsement was contained in a communiqué titled “One Good Turn Deserves Another”, issued at the end of a town hall meeting held at the International Conference Centre, Enugu. The leaders declared that their political loyalty is to Mbah’s leadership and performance rather than party affiliation.

Former Labor Party candidate in the 2023 governorship election, Hon. Chijioke Edeoga, moved the motion for Mbah’s adoption. In his remarks, Edeoga likened himself to the biblical Saul who became Paul, pledging to work tirelessly for the governor’s re election. The motion was seconded by former APC chairman, Dr. Ben Nwoye, who noted that the gathering was about Mbah’s achievements, not partisan politics.

The communiqué highlighted the governor’s accomplishments, including improved security, allocation of 33% of the state’s budget to 260 Smart Green Schools and 260 Primary Healthcare Centers, revival of state owned assets, massive road projects covering over 1,000 km, the launch of Enugu Air, modern transport terminals, and 100 CNG buses. It also listed the completion of the International Conference Centre, ongoing construction of a 5 star hotel, and the establishment of the Enugu International Hospital.

Former Deputy Governor, Dr. Sunday Onyebuchi, maintained that any politician running against Mbah in 2027 would be wasting money, given the governor’s track record.

The leaders further appealed to other senatorial zones to reciprocate Enugu East’s past political sacrifices by supporting Mbah’s second term bid.
