Amstel Malta has used the 2026 August Meeting celebrations in Enugu and Abia to recognise women and support female entrepreneurs with business grants aimed at strengthening their livelihoods.
The August Meeting is a major annual tradition in the South-East, bringing together women living within the region and those in the diaspora to reconnect with their communities, discuss issues of shared concern and contribute to development.
This year, Amstel Malta expanded its participation by placing greater emphasis on women’s personal ambitions and achievements, in addition to acknowledging their contributions to their families and communities.
As part of the programme, the brand awarded business grants to female entrepreneurs in Enugu and Abia to help them improve their businesses and pursue new opportunities.
In Abia State, five women benefited from the grants, while the state government also offered additional assistance to female entrepreneurs.
Speaking during the August Meeting, Amstel Malta Senior Brand Manager, Francis Obiajulu, described the gathering as an example of what women can accomplish when they unite around a shared objective.
He said the brand was pleased to support initiatives that celebrate women beyond their traditional responsibilities and create opportunities for them to feel valued and empowered.
The initiative was also supported by Zaron Cosmetics. Its Senior Manager for Marketing and Communication, Aderinsola Adetunji, said the partnership was aimed at appreciating women whose contributions continue to sustain the August Meeting tradition.
She noted that women devote considerable effort to their families and communities and said the initiative provided an opportunity to encourage them to also invest in themselves.
Amstel Malta said its commitment to women’s empowerment goes beyond the annual August Meeting, pointing to its various partnerships and platforms designed to recognise women’s resilience, accomplishments and contributions.
The company added that its activities in Enugu and Abia, building on similar efforts from the previous year, are part of its broader commitment to creating meaningful experiences and opportunities for women.
The initiative also highlights the growing role of economic empowerment in women-focused community programmes, particularly through practical assistance that enables entrepreneurs to expand their businesses and strengthen their impact within their communities.
