The Forum of Political Parties State Chairmen in Imo State has rejected the proposed local government election, accusing the state electoral authorities of failing to follow the legal procedures required for a credible poll.
In a statement signed by its Coordinating Secretary, Hon. Uzor Agaptus, the forum expressed concern over the alleged lack of an official election timetable, statutory notice and adequate communication to political parties.
According to the forum, the election was reportedly scheduled with barely two weeks’ notice, raising questions about the transparency and legality of the process.
Parties Threaten Court Action
Agaptus said the political parties would not participate in what he described as an “electoral jamboree,” warning that they were prepared to challenge the proposed election in court.
He questioned how the authorities could organise an election without providing political parties with the necessary details and sufficient notice.
“How do you conduct an election without a timetable, no notice, and no information to any single political party?” he queried.
