Lagos State Health Service Commission Inspects Surulere Hospitals to Improve Service Delivery

By Faith Eze

The Lagos State Government continues to place strong emphasis on quality healthcare infrastructure and efficient service delivery across all public medical facilities in the state. In a recent administrative move, the Lagos State Health Service Commission carried out a detailed inspection tour of three major public hospitals located within the Surulere local government area. This oversight visit was designed to evaluate the operational capacities of these health institutions, check ongoing infrastructural upgrades, and identify vital areas requiring immediate support to better serve residents.

The inspection delegation, led by high-ranking officials of the commission including Commissioner IV Ololade Fadipe, visited the Randle General Hospital network. The facilities covered during the extensive familiarization and monitoring exercise included the primary site of Randle General Hospital, the Maternal and Child Centre located in Gbaja, and the Femi Gbajabiamila General Hospital situated along Iyun Road. These medical institutions cater to thousands of patients daily, serving as critical touchpoints for secondary healthcare delivery within Surulere and neighboring residential communities.

During the tour, the visiting team also inspected major construction and developmental projects tied to the hospital network. This included reviewing the ongoing reconstruction work at the old Randle General Hospital site alongside the development of a brand-new private wing situated right behind the Femi Gbajabiamila General Hospital. Such expansion efforts are aimed at bridging infrastructural gaps, reducing congestion, and expanding access to specialized medical services for the growing population in the metropolis.

Heads of departments and medical personnel across the three inspected facilities used the opportunity to brief the commissioner on their daily workflows, service capacities, and specific operational challenges requiring prompt administrative attention. Medical directors highlighted successes recorded in patient care while also outlining areas where logistical or equipment boosts would significantly enhance output. The leadership commended the dedication of doctors, nurses, and support staff who maintain professional standards despite heavy patient turnouts.

While acknowledging the steady progress recorded across the health network, the commission urged hospital management and personnel to maintain high standards of professionalism. Emphasizing the administration's commitment to universal health coverage, officials reiterated that public hospitals must remain clean, responsive, and efficient. The state government remains dedicated to continuous oversight and regular facility assessments to ensure that public funds translate into tangible improvements in the wellbeing of every Lagos resident.
