Senator Shehu Buba Submits Himself to DSS, Police, and DIA Over Banditry Allegations

The senator representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, Shehu Buba Umar, has voluntarily presented himself to major security and intelligence institutions—including the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, and the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA)—to face thorough investigations into allegations linking him to banditry and other violent crimes.

Addressing a press conference, the lawmaker categorically and unequivocally denied any involvement in sponsoring, financing, or supporting banditry, terrorism, or kidnapping. He noted that his decision to proactively invite a high-level security probe is driven by a desire to ensure that the claims are handled through established legal channels rather than unverified social media speculation and propaganda.

According to the senator, his legal team, headed by former Nigerian Bar Association President Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau (SAN), formally reached out to the security agencies to request a comprehensive investigation. He attributed part of the misrepresentation to his past official responsibilities, explaining that sensitive engagements with military and intelligence stakeholders during his legislative duties might have been deliberately distorted by political opponents.

Challenging his accusers to step forward with verifiable proof rather than hiding behind anonymous online handles, the lawmaker reiterated his full readiness to cooperate with investigators. He emphasized that he would readily face prosecution and accept the consequences of the law if any credible evidence linked him to wrongdoing, while demanding accountability for those who manufactured false claims.
